Information for the Caregiver, Nanny, Au Pair

I strongly believe that it is as important for a Canadian family to find the perfect caregiver as it is for the caregiver to find a perfect family! I will do my best to accommodate you in finding the perfect family. In addition I will assist you and your potential employer, from steps A to Z.

As a result of Freedom Canada being located in British Columbia, we are able to do extensive advertising of your resume, and hopefully secure you a job. In addition, the potential employer is assisted throughout the process, and is not charged any fees. This results in more employers wanting to hire caregivers through Freedom Canada.

Families that use Freedom Canada are required to hire a caregiver through the live-in caregiver program. They are required to abide by all rules and regulations regarding salary and time worked, as set out province to province. To qualify for this program, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of the equivalent of a Canadian high school education.
  • Six months of full-time training or 12 months of experience in paid employment related to the job you are seeking as a live-in caregiver. This time must be within the three years immediately prior to the day on which you submit your application.
  • The ability to read and understand either English or French.
  • You must hold a valid passport.
  • You must have your original birth certificate.
  • You must provide educational certificates from high school and/or college/university  (your Visa may require that these be validated)
  • You must be prepared to obtain a police clearance. This is something that is required for your working Visa.
  • You must take and pass a complete doctor’s medical examination (to be set up when you are processing your working visa application)
  • You must be legally working in the country you are currently in, with a legal employment contract
  • You must complete and return the Caregiver, Nanny, Au Pair Application Form

Once all of the above information is received, I will do my best to try to secure you a job within Canada.  If you are successful in finding employment, you will be assisted with preparing the documents and paperwork, and following the specific procedures with the Embassy in your area.

Once you arrive in Canada, you will be contacted to ensure that you are comfortable and safe.  You will be provided with ongoing support throughout your stay. Should you be unhappy with your job as a result of being mistreated, abuse, overworked, etc, I will try my best to find you another employer, at no charge to you.

Tips for a strong application:

  • Try to include action photos with your application versus profile photos. Employers want to see you active with the children - they want to see some personality. If you are a fun person - try to send a photo that shows you having fun with the children. If you are a loving person - try to send a photo with you hugging the children.
  • Check your email often. If an employer is interested in your profile, they will want you to respond to their requests in a timely manner.
  • Try to save funds for the application fees involved with your Visa. Employers may be prepared to assist you with the flight fees to Canada, however, they may not be willing to send you monies to process your Visa Application. This is because there is no guarantee to them that your Visa will be approved, and because of the concern of fraud.
  • Try to organize all of your certificates, schooling records, etc. The more organized and prepared you are, the better.
  • If you are being interviewed, be yourself!
  • If you are sending your employers emails, be polite, honest, and try to review your English and grammer
  • Show an interest in your employer. They want you to be happy! If they say that they attend sporting events often, and you share this interest, let them know!
